The staff at Howell's is fantastic. During the COVID 19 Pandemic many businesses are struggling to get what the need from distributers and to keep their shelves stocked, due to that fact the staff at Howell's helped me find something they had on site already that was even better than the gun I originally had in mind. Thanks a ton! See you all again as soon as things return to normal for a bow class.

My girlfriend wanted to try to shoot a firearm while in the U.S.So we just showed up. As we both were total newbie we were a little nervous.But as soon as we spoke to an employee I felt better.Everybody was very nice and friendly from the get go.We had a blast.And I would like to say a special thank you to Bob who was really nice and patient.He also reminded us to take pictures because we totally forgot since we were pretty nervous.I recommend this place very stongly and once again thanks to Bob.Martin and Catherine

Shooting at Howell's has been an incredible experience. Having been raised in an area of Brooklyn NYC where shootouts were common, I had an innate fear of firearms. This place completely changed my viewpoint on firearms within the first minutes of being there. They were kind, welcoming, helping and went above and beyond to help me feel secure at the range. Their emphasis on safety and education far exceeded my expectations. My visit was supposed to be a 'once in a lifetime' thing to mark off my bucket list, but I now regularly visit. My nephew came up from NYC for a visit and the staff did an amazing job setting him up at the range. This was a highlight of his trip to maine and he looks forward to return during his next trip!

The BEST place to purchase your weaponry!! Friendly customer service people, who know how to listen and help you get what you need! The shooting range is absolutely the BEST, well lit, clean, roomy an ventilated!! Range safety officers are knowledgeable an very helpful!!

Miserable disappointment. I called one afternoon to ask about 12 guage shotgun shells and had a discussion with an older gentleman who explained what I needed after telling him of my new shotgun. He said he had the shells I neeed. The next day I went in. The younger man was uninterested in helping me. I explained I was not experienced with shotguns and t bgg at I had been told they had the shells in stock. He had no interest in helping me and insisted they didnt have what I needed. Too bad, I was also going to sign up for handgun lessons. Now I'll just go to windham.

Decent variety of weapons, ammo and accessories for sale. Very disappointed with some of the staff (cant speak about all of them). But the ones I've encountered always gave me attitude and terrible service. I would ask them questions about certain firearms and they would either act like they dont care or gave me attitude. Same when buying a couple magazines and ammo. The service alone has kept me away from going back.

Nice looking range facilities with decent sidearms and long guns to rent. On the sales side, different situation. Certain members of the sales staff was too busy discussing their upcoming shifts (Or love lives) to be bothered offering customer service. Sorry to make you engage in a core job responsibility.Went there expressedly to inspect one item. Inspected the rifle and inquired about price flexibility. Pointed out few key concerns regarding the condition of the rifle: fact it was missing a mid-rib bead, and it had been there for close to a year. Might as well discussed these with a brick wall. Provided some story 'Long time customer.', 'On consignment', and 'Oh, he's going to take it back soon!'. Made a point to advise him that the offering had been there for a long time, been listed online several times with no response, and they should let the customer know someone was finally interested. Nada, same sad song from him. Clearly just not interested in even trying to facilitate a sale.After that, he was not clearly no longer interested in discussing any of the other items for sale. Actually told me some used reloading equipment and supplies were for him as he had use of them. 'Oh, running a museum here?' I quipped. No reply.But then he came right out and inquired about the two items I mentioned for a potential trade. Let him know clearly that yes, they're available, and at a price he wasn't going to or able to pay. Additionally it was made clear I wasn't interested in doing business with him or Howell's, ever.'Thank you for your time and good luck' was what I left him with. I'm already moving on to purchase another option.If you go, go for the range facilities. They have to be among some of the safest I've seen.*** Footnote: Did receive the following reply from owner:'Response from the owner a month agoThank you for your review. I have been to many ranges both professional and armature. I have been coached by the best and neighborhood pros. This is a top notch outfit. Family members Had a day planned for my birthday and because it was a nasty day we decided on Howell's for plan B. It was a huge success. My first time here and everything was done professionally. Tip top safety first. A couple of my family were real raw and had not shot hardly at all and others not in years. Pointers were offered in a friendly professional manner that made a huge difference in their understanding, handling and accuracy. Prices were very good due to a promotion that they had offered. Convinced me and the rest to return and make this a regular destination.

Just visited Howells for the first time and I have to say I had a fantastic time. I came it to purchase my first 'real' handgun. I worked with Don who was wonderful. He listen to and answered all of my questions and concerns and in the end made a recomendation that was a perfect fit. He helped me stay on budget and made sure I got plenty of hands on experience before I gave him my hard earn money! I would recommend Don and Howells to anyone. Also I like the service after the sale by inviting me back for classes and range time. Five stars!

A family member took the basic hand gun training and hated it. They did not feel the need to post a review but I did. According to them It was very clear from the beginning that both female instructors were pro NRA and pro combat style training and was trying to prove that they had more testosterone than any man.. They made comments about their trainees and the militaristic yelling at their students while they fired their weapons was inappropriate for a basic training course. I took a basics course off of rt 302 that trained you to respect your weapon, no yelling or comments were made and I was trained to only use my weapon as a last resort, the complete opposite of this training. Would be nice if I could rate zero stars for this training session.

Excellent service, friendly owner and staff. Traded a pistol here , bought ammo ,used the quality indoor range. Recently bought sights from their website had a slight mix up on the order which was completely ironed out by the owner straight away no problem and had them fitted by their gunsmiths (for free). Each time Ive received professional, superb service. Theres a friendly feel to the place plus you are nearly always greeted by one of the staffs dogs who are also super cool. Love this place.

The place is big but could be a lot smaller for the small amount of inventory. It leaves everything looking kind of sparse. Not a big selection of handguns; didnt even bother looking over the rifles but they had a handful of them hanging up on the wall and a few hunting rifles up the stairs.It looked like they had more rental handguns than what they actually sell, so I guess it might be a good place to try out a gun. Didnt go into the range.Prices were fairly on-point with what Ive seen around. Comparable to a certain big box store nearby. Ive seen cheaper prices from better-stocked stores, but all-in-all about what youd expect for the area.Staff seemed friendly enough and made sure to ask me if I needed help with anything. Overall, a pretty basic selection with so-so pricing, but with a staff that doesnt thumb their nose at you. Personally I probably dont have a reason to go back, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt check it out if youre in the area.

Made my first visit to this business the other week as I was in the market for a new firearm and wanted to take advantage of their 'try before you buy'. Ryan couldn't have been more helpful as he patiently answered all my questions and offered valuable insight, even going so far as to offer to let me try his own personal carry sidearm as it wasn't a model among their rental stock but was one of the models I had an interest in. Talk about going above and beyond! With the help of Howells I was able to make a decision I am very happy with.

Went to Howell's for the first time two weeks ago. The staff, especially Sam I believe it was, was very helpful and patience with our two girls 10 and 9 and it being their very first time ever holding or firing a firearm. He made sure we knew what we were doing, answered any questions we had, and that we were all safe. Me and my family will definitely be back very soon.

They're really starting to go downhill. Getting very picky about Ammo. Getting picky about how people shoot even though they've been there ten times before. Honestly I'm just kind of sick of paying money and never having a good experience here. There was a time where I went to Howell's when they first reopen I had an amazing experience and then I had a couple more great experiences and it was a great place to bring new shooters and there are some staff there that look at me like this guy knows what he's doing and then there's the newer staff that are so damn by the book it just takes the fun out of any of it. I'm just going to take my business back over to Summer Haven where it's free they're always improving it and it really doesn't matter what you shoot there

Howells is the best gun shop / indoor range in the state. Their customer service is top notch. Kathleen out front made my girlfriend and I feel extremely welcomed. She answered all of our questions and helped find my girlfriend the perfect fire arm for the range. Once we went inside the range, we were welcomed by Shane. He is outstanding. He made us feel comfortable, aware and was very helpful. He was super knowledgeable in all aspects of fire arm safety and firing. I would recommend this place to everyone, beginning gun owners and experienced ones. Keep up the great work!

My girlfriend and I took an entry level handgun class with Tatiana. She was friendly, patient and very helpful. Really appreciated how informative and safety oriented the class was. Would highly recommend classes with her! The indoor range was really nice and the shop had a great selection on hand. The guys in the shop seemed a bit intimidating. So I had not been to Howell's in almost a year, and went very recently to check out the new indoor range that was built. Wow! This place got a huge face lift. It was a great shop before, but now its incredible. The range itself is very polished and modern, the staff are GREAT, down to earth, and very friendly. The firearms selection is also top notch. In my opinion, this is the best gun shop in Southern Maine.

I paid for and scheduled to attend a training class. I was unable to make the class and left four or five messages to let them know I could not make it to the class and to request a refund. I NEVER received a return call or email and did not receive a refund. I will not do business with this organization ever again. Terrible to zero customer service. PATHETIC!

Disappointing visit. I usually talk with owner. Today he wasn't there. The guys that were there were more interested in shooting the hay then selling me a gun. Website said they had the one I wanted in stock but was told they would have to order it. Guess I need to take my business elsewhere.Too bad I liked doing business locally. I guess all good things come to an end .

I called ahead told them what I had for a shot gun that I was looking to sell (Have another project I was looking to fund) I get there and they say 'oh we're not really looking to buy any shotguns right now I'd offer you 50 bucks' IT'S A 300 DOLLAR SHOT GUN. I know they have to make money but come on! So while I was there I had my side arm holstered with the safety on and I asked if they would entertain me with a quote for it, I told them it was chambered. I reached for it and the guy start pulling his gun on me! Then had the Nerve to offer me 75.00 when I just bought it for 400!!! They are nothing but a glorified pawn shop and I will never step foot in their store again. Adding to this to clarify to the response by the owner My weapon was not pulled out of my holster all I did was reach down and unsnapped my holster and started to pinch the grip to hand it over. I never said his weapon was drawn he lifted is jacket and had his hand on his pistol that is as I stated 'starting' to draw his weapon. and when I ask for a offer on my loaded handgun not a single person in that store said yeah for sure lets go to the range so we can safely unload it, and if that is store policy he then proceeded to unload it in the retail space so maybe it is time to reevaluate your employees and send them through the proper training of your store policy. As I stated in my original review I will not be back. It's sad when someone would rather do business with Cabelas than a local gun shop. Luckily for me there are Gun shops that are a little bit further but worth the extra drive than to stop at your store.

We shoot at the new range from time to time and it is very nice and well run.I find the staff exceptional with good advice if you ask for it. Every experience we have had there has been pleasurable and we expect to trade there for a LONG time.

The folks at Howell's are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, there is a great selection of guns and hunting supplies. Ive purchased several guns in my life and they are by far the best to deal with. They are my go to gun shop. The prices are fair and the service is amazing.

I love this place, best indoor range in the state of Maine. Their rental program is rather stupid though, if I walk in the door with a range bag full of my own guns why would I need a rental to commit suicide? Why refuse to rent to someone who comes in alone. Other than that I love the place.
