This CPL qualifying course in home defense exceeded my expectations by a long shot. In the 5 hours of classroom content preceding the 3 hours of range instruction the NRA material and situational videos are excellent.The teaching by Derick, an NRA certified instructor and chief range officer is superb ... very interesting and well delivered ... not just a boring recital of the NRA lesson plan.There is plenty of time spent on legal matters, incidents and self defense in public and the likely aftermath of a successful self defense in your home.The 3 hours of range training is not about marksmanship from 25 or 50 yards but about tactical shooting techniques in close quarters attacks. That's really what pistol ownership should be about. Range shooting is very important for maintaining comfort and competence, but marksmanship, however fun, in my opinion should be secondary.When I returned home that evening I immediately said to my wife, 'It was very worth while. I really learned a lot!'
