I first started going here about 15 years ago and have had some good dealings with employees and bad. Mr Binkley always seemed so nice and so friendly. Bought a few firearms from this shop, earlier when Mr. Binkley owned it then also a few when he sold to one of the employees (who was an ass!) and then had some work done when Mr. Binkley took back over the shop. some his son did (I believe his son passed sad to hear) and it was done great. Then I took a brand new barrel in to have a front sight drilled and tapered and pins inserted, it was way off center, could never be shot as that was the front sight and was way to the side (it might have got enough gas to cycle but maybe not?) took back they hemmed and hawed around didn't really do anything besides getting it more centered by taking the pins out most the way so they were sticking out and basically loose. ended up taking to another shop closer to me who quoted it half price from the start and I knew was fully capable of doing but I felt I wanted to support Custom Gunsmithing as I like the out of the way and family feel the shop 'USED' to have. Now I really question anything as I dont think Mr Binkley does much of the smithing himself anymore and has some people in there taking advantage of him and running the shop down as he is in his golden years. He deserves better1!

In response to the AR-10 review by Keith. He happens to forget that he picked up the rifle at least 6 months ago and has not brought it back for any reason prior to this. He has admitted to shooting the rifle a number of times. Now if the barrel nut was loose your heads space would be off and there for would not be able to fire a round or multiple rounds. He was offered the opportunity to bring the rifle in and have it looked at to see why and if it came loose and have it corrected for no charge even tho it has been 6 months since it was worked on. After that was said Keith said why the **** would I bring anything to you guys. I then explained it has been 6 months since you have picked up your rifle and you have openly admitted to shooting the rifle. In which for all we know you could have made changes to your rifle during the last 6 months. Now as far as the employee cussing him out. Keith was informed that the employee was not at the shop and would be in later and told he would get called back when he got in. Keith then decided to call the employee on his personal phone and start cussing at him. Now what happens when you call someone on their private number has nothing to do with business. You are looking for a problem at that point. However their was no threat of the police being called I don't have to involve police to handle children!!!

I took my Armalite AR10 there to have the barrel torqued down, the gas block lined up and the armalite tunable gas brake torqued down. I was told the barrel was torqued to 52 ft. lb. within specs for that firearm.. however after deciding to go with a Krieger Barrel I took the rail off it to see how hard it would be to switch out the barrels. I grabbed the barrel nut by hand and it came loose. Its likely I was about a bullet or two from having the weapon blow up on me. After calling the shop to voice my extreme disappointment for the job the perform. I was cussed out by one of the employees there for calling his personal phone about the issue I was having. He even threatened to call the police. This is a simple job on a very modular weapon and there is no reason why this should have happened. I'm just glad I caught it when i did. I highly recommend that if you care at all about your firearm at all, DON'T TAKE IT TO CUSTOM GUN SMITHING.??? Sure I shot the rifle that what you do after you have one built.. It should have been able to shoot for the life of the barrel if it had been properly torqued.. Thank you for making my point.

My father took his Smith .44 to be drilled, tapped and ported. The drilling and tapping seems to be okay, the scope is mounted solidly and holds zero, but the porting is horrific. It looks like it was done with a hand drill. The holes are rough, the metal is chipped around the edge, and they aren't even in a straight line. Cannot recommend, at least for anything requiring accurate machining skills.
