This is a great park and campground. I'm hesitant to give it too good of a review because I don't want a bunch of competition getting a spot .

Gravel nazis. If the tires of your vehicle are 2 inches off the gravel onto the grass, they freak out and ask you to move. Apparently grass is hard to grow in Santee, SC but corn is not.

I am currently staying here for the Fourth of July and was awaken before 8 a.m. by a park ranger and told I needed to park my vehicle in the overflow parking lot down the road. In the policy it says two vehicles per campsite are allowed and thats what we have. He told my husband it was parked on the grass. I do not see anything in the policy online about parking on grass and the lot really only has small patches of grass anyway. We have camped at this state park numerous times and have never had any issues like this. I am furious that this ranger first of all wakes me up on my vacation that early in the morning to basically harass us. Secondly that we are being told we will have to park our boat down the road from our campsite once I take my vehicle back home this morning. I will not come back to this state park ever again and it makes me sad because we have always enjoyed staying here in the past. I picked this lot this year back in January and made the reservation bc it was in the back and a big lot with lots of space. We have been hearing other friends and others on Facebook say that they were given a hard time by the rangers here lately so this only proves what was said was true. I will stick it out this weekend but called the office staff, who were very friendly, and advised we would not be coming back to stay here ever again!!! Its the fourth and to be on vacation and have someone knock on your door at 8am is just overboard.

Great trails and was easy going. I loved all the insects, squirrels, birds, and 3 deer we saw. On my draw back was not enough places to sit down and rest if beed be, and my Fitbit showed it as 8.5 miles.

We lived the 7.5 mile foot and bike path...shady and nice in spite of the heat. Lake was very pleasant.
